Paul Schmitz Named One of America’s 50 Most Influential Nonprofit Leaders

We’re proud to announce that for the second time, The Nonprofit Times has named Public Allies CEO Paul Schmitz to its prestigious Power & Influence Top 50 list. The list recognizes the nonprofit sector’s most influential leaders.

Paul just completed a 25-city book tour for his book, Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up, and completed service on the White House Council on Community Solutions where he helped lead their efforts on promoting collective impact on behalf of disconnected and disadvantaged youth. Paul also served during the year as a co-chair of Voices for National Service, which advocates for AmeriCorps, and as a board member of Independent Sector.

Throughout all his work, Paul has advocated to leaders in nonprofits, philanthropy and public policy about the need to change the face and practice of leadership to better solve community problems. Paul repeatedly emphasizes the incredible leadership potential of residents in communities – especially young people who have been disconnected from meaningful education and careers. He has also argued for leadership values that will help leaders and organizations better innovate, work collectively, and engage the communities they serve as assets.

Paul responded to the recognition by saying: “Lasting change requires the leadership of the many. We need leaders who have the skills, experience, and grounding to bring diverse organizations and people together if we are going to address persistent challenges in our communities. I hope our ideas and strategies at Public Allies continue to have great influence.”

Other honorees include Marian Wright Edelman, CEO of The Children’s Defense Fund; Brian Gallagher, CEO of United Way Worldwide; Bill Gates, Chairman of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Neil Nicoll, CEO of the YMCA of the USA, and Ben Rattray, CEO of change.org.
